2011 2400 runs the Columbia River in Portland Oregon...More Checkmates coming soon...

Nice shots! I remember when we lived out in Portland we used to love running up and down the Columbia and Willamette. The salmon fisherman hated us. They were so serious about their fishing that they'd be rafted up all day and not even crack open a beer for fear of screwing up a bite. Every marina had a weigh in salmon board and all people wanted to know was "How'd ya do?".
And there we were buzzing around them on waterskis.
Did not make a lot of friends on the river in Portland

SIM,
Funny....There is a LOT of truth to what you say about this area.... Us Performance Boat enthusiast are amongst the minority here (and not always so popular), with the majority being aluminum jet sleds and wakeboard boats.....both of which suffer big time in the Columbia River Chop. I think too many people buy a boat without considering when they buy a boat they are buying a bottom...everything above the bottom is aesthetics (assuming the general arrangment works for you) but the bottom design is a key attribute in the definition of a good boat..... I like the Performance boats because they do everything well and on rough and choppy day... my back doesn't hurt and I don't spill my drink... We can still fish and pull a boarder if and when we want..really fast too!
I like salmon, don't get me wrong, I just typically buy it at the store.....
I will say however, that Performance boating in this area has greatly improved and grown in the past few years. Look me up next time you are visiting

Looks great thanks for posting, these newer mates are really starting to impress with the overall dock appeal. i have an 08 zt 280 and it actually draws a crowd and the first question i usually get is . WoW checkmate really improved there grafics and interiors. and secondly someone always had or new someone with a mate. old and new mates rule

jln,
The ZT280 is a Hot looking boat. I have not yet been in one but I understand they run very well. Post a picture of your boat if you don't mind..I'd like to see it. What do you have for power? This is likely the next Checkmate I'll build.
thanks!

The Zt 280 i have has the 425 ho 496 and pretty much all the options, so far it runs 65 gps but its still breaking in, the ride is very stable and there is no porpoise at any rpm , the boat jumps right on plane . its a very stable fast hull for its size. i think this hull could handle some real HP with no problem.

jln,
Your ZT280 is definitely a HOT looking boat. I really like the proportions of the boat. Without saying any names, there are some boat manufacturers that just can't seem to get the profile view of the boats right. Yours is right on.
Thanks for posting the PICS! What are you running for a prop and what is your max rpm?

Thank you , boat came with a 24 pitch 4 blade and bravo 1 xdrive , can pull about 4500 with just a touch of trim ,2 people full load of fuel. only have about 15 hrs on the boat so kinda going easy but thats about 64 mph so far . i think with more hrs and trim its a 68 mph boat. we shall see. with exhaust and a labbed prop should see 70. but really im just into a nice cruise speed of 45 to 52 and thats around 3600 to 4000 rpm. i bought this boat as a leftover it was for sale for almost 3 yrs. but it appears that boats are starting to sell again and for the money the zt280 is a good value in a brand new boat. of course as we all know the motors really can raise the price quickly .

Wow jln, that is some impressive performance #'s...assuming you have the 1.5:1 ratio, you are running with prop slip in the 6% region....that is incredibly low and there isn't much more efficiency to improve upon there. Adding some prop tip cup to gain some bow lift (to reduce wetted surface drag) without having to trim the drive as much and labbing the propeller could gain you some speed on the top end but labbing the prop often will reduce efficiency at cruise speed (damn compromises..)....sounds like your on the right track! I really enjoy the technical set-up aspect of the boats....have fun!

if this boat was a long deck I would have been making somebody a smoking deal on my of 2100 BR hull all I can say is B E A U T FULL nice to finaly see a dealer out here on the west coast

thats the setup from the factory, you are correct 1.50 ratio. this hull has a small step and a notch, and i have not yet tried to really air it out . hopefully soon . there was a ZT280 (kelly o, blown milk) had with big horsepower and a ZT260 pulling close to and over 100 mph . i think this hull would be perfect for about 600hp , maybe someday .

Bravo 1,
I was on the fence regarding which style of boats to build, open bow or long deck. I chose the open bow because that style of boat does a bit better in this area.. Next I will build a long deck...
You're not too far from us. If you decide you want to sell your 2100, let me know and we'll give you good money for your trade and build you the perfect boat.... If yours is the one on your profile picture......very nice...send me a couple pics if you can. Where do you boat?
James
