Mercury Gauge Lights to LED

Blue Mist '97

Active member
While working on my lighting today, I started thinking that it would be nice to brighten up the instrument lights to some red LED's if possible.

Has anyone changed the standard wedge bulbs in your Mercury instruments (Flagship) to LED? If so, any idea what LED bulb replaces the Merc instrument bulb 88-898139001? Only thing found on the OEM bulb is LH 12v 3w, so would any 12v 3w wedge led lamp work as long as it's the correct size, style and wattage?

You should find what your looking for here. I was able to replace my stern & front nav light with LED's from here.

Go to superbrightled website. They have everything.
Been looking there and found my interior dome lights and pathway lights

You are right, they do have a lot of stuff.

Trying to decide on the 1M strips and the long strips for the motor compartment.

Still want blue LEDs for the gauges, but thinking it may make the dash too bright at night and cause problems. Probably wind up with red.

Hatch Lift Switch

Does anyone have this hatch lift switch on your 1997 era boat? The toggle switch works fine, and I think there is an led below it. As far as I can tell, this light has never worked (at least since 2009) and I am trying to figure out why.

Since leds don't seem to fail often, I was wondering if the momentary switch (for lack of a better term) mounted in the front right corner of the hatch area (hatch compresses the switch when it seats in the hatch groove) could be faulty. I am guessing that the light should come on when the hatch goes up? If so, any idea where I might find one?

Thats a circuit breaker, not an LED

wonder where we can get a repalacement switch... mine works, but may be faulty, hatch raises slow through the switch and fast when wired to battery terminals

Did you try using a larger gauge wire? That's how I corrected the problem on my Sonic. Also there a lot of guys using relays. Do a search on OSO and you'll get many answers.

I believe the switches were made by PROTO-FAB, INC. in Elkhart, Indiana. I called them and they referred me to an RV company in Washington State (I think). Guess the company sold and moved. The head guy was Ray Saunders. I called and he called me back about a week later, but I never called him back. He may be able to shed some light on how to get a new switch. He will probably need the number off the switch. Don't know if yours and mine are the same, but I posted a pic of my switch in the first post.
