Just bought a 1995 Checkmate Pulse wih Mercury Black Max 175. Just wondering how to shoot rooster tail with an outboard. Will trim up do it and or do i need to raise the motor on the jack plate?

Trim up will usually do it. But if you have a jack plate raising the motor up to the top will help a lot too. Just check that you still have waterpressure when running it up at the top. My boat is set up so the centerline of the prop shaft is even with the bottom of the pad when the jack plate is all the way to the top and I only trim up a little to hit best speed, but that results in a bit of a rooster tail anyway. Trimming up more at that point makes a big tail but scrubs a bit of speed.
