I sold an outboard motor early this morning. Had it listed on Marketplace for less then 36 hours. Guy drove 5 hours up from Virginia to get it. Really nice guy. Likes to talk. He saw my Checkmate on my profile pic. He told me when he bought his Convincer back in the 80's he met Bill Combs and he gave him a tour of both Checkmate factories for small boats and offshore boats. He said during the tour he noticed they only had women doing the layup of the fiberglass in all the molds. He said Bill said it was because they take more pride in their work. Really? Anyway, he made me an offer for a few hundred less then I was asking plus he said he would give me a stack of Checkmate brochures. Every year from 1986 through 1999. Except 1997. Plus a clothing and accessories catalog. So I accepted his offer. I would have taken just the cash. He showed up at my house this morning at 5:30 AM. We loaded the motor in his truck. He gave me the brochures and he left. They are all in like new condition. Inside a bunch of them I found retail price lists for the base boats and the optional equipment. How cool is that!
