"Wanted" 17'-19'ft checkmate

bmillar

New member
Hello - I'm looking for an older 17'-19'ft checkmate, preferably a bowrider but it's not mandatory. My budget is $7500. I live in Toronto, ON, Canada so something around the Great Lakes would be ideal, Canada or the U.S., but would be willing to drive further if necessary. I'm not looking for a project but something that is in decent condition. Let me know if you have something available or know of a listing. Thank you.

:welcome:Welcome to the Forum. One place to check out here is "Even More CL Finds" located under eBay, Internet & 3rd Party Listings. Forum SCT updates this list almost daily. When you find it go to the last page which will take you to the most current listings links. The most current page is 127. Good luck in your search and I hope you find the boat you're looking for. Don't hesitate to post any questions or concerns about any particular Checkmates you find as there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. You definitely can't go wrong with a Checkmate.:thumb: Jim

Thanks, Chris.

Can anyone point me to a thread that explains all of the different hull designs/models in this size range from the 80's and 90's. I'm sure someone has done this before but I can't seem to find anything. Thanks!

Don't know if you've looked through the Checkmate Promotional Material for each model year yet. Under the Main Menu click on Gallery then scroll down a little bit and you'll see each model year. You can get some basic info there on the different styles. What are you looking for in a boat? Speed, skiing, tubing , recreation or a little bit of everything. Are you planning on using it on large lakes with choppy water or on smoother bodies of water? With those considerations in mind you should be able to get plenty of feed back and some recommendations. Jim

Thanks, Jim.

A little bit of everything. It needs to be able to handle some larger lakes. I wouldn't be taking it out when it's really bad but some rough water capabilities would be nice. Thanks for the help.

2 boats

Hi guys - I found a few boats that I could use your opinions on. The first is this:

A bit out of my price range. I emailed him and he said he would do CAD$8500. I could probably get him down to CAD$8000. It looks like a really nice boat although I don't think it's a starfire. Judging by the marketing material it looks more like an exciter or sportfire. It's a lot like this boat although I don't really want to drive that far:

The second is this:

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-mo...ate/591865023?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

I talked to him on the phone and it sounds like the boat is in really good condition. He says it's all original and it's always had a full length cover. The reviews on those motors seem to be generally positive online.

Any opinions on these boats would be greatly appreciated. Once again, I'm looking for an all around boat (cruising, skiing, tubing, big lake and small lake/river). I realize that no boat is perfect for doing everything.

Thanks for the help.

I personally like the 1988 Exciter. It has a 350 with a new Alpha outdrive. Should be a very good, dependable set up. The boat looks to be in great shape. You'll just want to check her over good and make sure everything is structurally sound. I think it's a much better set up than the 4.3 V-6. More snap out of the hole, more top end, better all around. A used lift typically sells for least $1000-$1500. Good luck. :thumb: Jim

Enchanter

If you don't find anything by spring, I'll be selling my '83 Enchanter, 21 ft with a 200 Merc EFI. Motor has been completely gone thru and other than a little TLC, some polishing, it's solid. Has a Shoreline trailer. Not an open bow, but an awesome boat. Can e-mail you a pic if you would like. PM me

Hi guys - I'm going to water test a 1994 Pulse 186 with a 1992 Evinrude Intruder 175 on Saturday. I went and looked at it late fall and it was already winterized (snow on the ground). It's in really good condition from what I can tell. Floor seems solid, no tears in the seats, the hull looks like it's in perfect condition, and I couldn't find any small stress cracks in the transom. He is the 2nd owner of 14 years (original owner was a guy on the same lake as him). It was always stored in his boat house and has a full length cover. We agreed on $6250 subject to a water test in the spring. I'm going to bring a compression tester. From what I can find online that engine should run somewhere around 85-95 psi. I've also read that's it's not the absolute level but the variance that matters. Some people say no more than 10% variance and others say 15%. My question would be, if it comes out closer to 15%, is that a deal breaker or simply a bargaining chip? Are there any known problems with this model/engine that I should look out for? Should I check anything else? The help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures since he recently took down the ad. I'll post some later if I end up dragging it home. Thanks guys.

1982 Checkmate Enticer

Hello - I'm looking for an older 17'-19'ft checkmate, preferably a bowrider but it's not mandatory. My budget is $7500. I am helping a friend to sell a 1982 Checkmate Enticer 16'6" with a 150 HP Mercury Blue Max Motor and SMP Trailer. The Boat and Motor have less than 100 HRS on them. This boat and trailer has been kept inside since it was new. You will never find another boat like this one it is in like new condition. The boat has not been used much. The boat was just serviced, tune up, new battery and water pump. It is ready for the water. The boat is located in Knoxville, TN.

If you are interested please send me an email and I will send pictures. My email is rockyandrudy@comcast.net
