I have just purchased a 17' 1989 Sportfire and looking for any info good and bad before I start logging hours on it.

Also suggested upgrades, prop suggestions.

The motor is 4cyl IO.

look for a good 21 pitch aluminum or merc mirage
unless someone has changed the drive

if it has a radiator cap on the exaust manifold
then it should be a 3.7 litre 4cyl

it must have antifreeze

how 'bout pics and more info

that is a real popular boat here

the hull is the same as my 17 foot '85 diplomat bowrider----its a nice design that handles well in turns and light chop---very nimble. I have the mercruiser 470 I/O that daren34 mentioned. Be sure to check all fluids thoroughly and make sure it has and holds antifreeze---it cools with a heat exchanger system. aslo too the 21 pitch prop in 14.25 or 14.50 inch diameter works very well on these boats as an all-around performer----the color scheme works nicely for the old school lightning bolt on the side---nice boat :)
