253 convicor dlx speed

beer truck

New member
I am looking at buying a used 96 253 dlx with a 7.4L B1 engine I'm thinking it is the 330 hp version and not the magnum ( I;m not sure though) any ideas about top speed with this set up, a good price for a boat in good cond with 200 hours, and any problems to look out for in this model and year
Thanks
Don

Also what is the approx weight of the boat and trailer? I have a 99 ford lightning p/u that is rate to tw 5000 lbs. Do you see any problem with this combo?

Beer Truck, a lightning with a Checkmate behind it would be a sweet combo..
The 1996 253 Sold/retailed new for $46,800 with the 330hp 7.4 Mercruiser. today suggested retail is $27,270, wholesale low is $19,172 and wholesale high is $27,270.. if it has a C-Hawk trailer under it, the trailer sold new for $4,050, retails at $2,300, wholesale low $1,458 and wholesale high.. $1,863.. these prices don't inlcude options, just the boat. If the Convincor your looking at has Silent Choice or Corsa, GPS, Cockpit covers, etc.. this could be taken into consideration. What I normally do is add 10-15% to the price of the boat if it's mint, and has several options. For instance, a new cover for the boat is probably right around $800.00 new.. so it's worth something used. The book I used is the Marine Dealers ABOS Electronic Blue Book..

Speed, with the 330hp, your looking at 60mph, maybe lower 60's.. the 365 mag would probably get you mid to uppers depending on prop, conditions, etc.

Weight of the boat is 4,400 dry, beam 8'3" and she's got an overall of 25'3". The above weight is without the trailer. Shipping weight on the trailer is 1,330 pounds without tires. Hopefully this helps you out.

What colour is the Convincor? If it was red like the Lightning (I am presuming its that colour) it would look so awesome! Even though I am a diehard GM fan, I would still think it looks great!

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!

Welcome beer truck! The 253 is a great boat! One thing to look for hwere you live for the value. If it has been run in the Sound, subtract about 20% of the value because of the salt. If is spent its life on Lake Washington and Hooters on Lake Union, Then no salt worries.

Beer Truck, I'm going to add a little to my above answer.. One question you have is about problems.. There are none.. it still doesn't hurt to have a survey done, it'll cost you around $250-$300 now, but save you a "boat load" in the future. If she's been taken care of, you shouldn't have any issues. If it was left uncovered, has exra holes drilled for some reason, a Surveyors moisture meter can pick up if moistures gotten into the structure of the boat. She's a full load for you Lightning.. if your not going far, your probably going to be fine. If your doing lots of highway/traveling, she'll have her hands full/you'll know you have a boat behind you. If you run across any other Boats, even other brands and need pricing, let me know. Rick

Sorry to bring this up in here, but you said if you need pricing... I was wondering what are good prices for a 96-01 Pulsare? I just want to know so I will be ahead of the game. Something with a 225 or 300 ProMax...

I just did. I don't go there to often because I live in Ontario, and none of these boats are close to me. Also the lowest cost I saw was 20 000 for a 96. I am presuming that it USD. But I did find this completely red one for 24 999 that looked awesome. You should have yourself a look... Unless you already have...

Z, if you want a boat, you better be prepared to take a drive. When I found mine.....I talked to the marina and got them to email me pics and then I had to drive 4 hours to Ottawa to buy it. When I got to Ottawa I had to get a money order, get the trailer permit changed, get it insured, and then drive back to Toronto.

And it was worth it! We always talk about that crazy day when we drove almost 1000 Kilometers in a day to get our Mate.

Do you remember who you bought it from in Ottawa. Also what river/lake it was on. I might know who it was...

The downside of wana Checkmate, I have driven 1000 miles, not KM's, to Checkamte, almost 600mles to and from Bayview once and have to do it again to pick up the boat when it comes in. And like Chris said, it is, was all worth it!!!
