Buffing Questions

 What are the products that you guys are using to clean gelcoat with oxidation. i have read lots of threads and i havent found a magority using a certain product. Is aqua buff the best, what about wizards. how about the sealer type that some companys are selling. how about waxes, whats good whats not. i am lost, i just want to do it right and bring back that shine.

If you have heavy oxidation I think AB is your best choice- it will bring down the gel profile (remove high points to remove pitting) so that wax is able to fill it in. If you don't have enough clear over your color left, you may not be able to bring it back though.

Use Aquabuff only as a last resort or if your gel rough to the touch. It is reeeeeeaaaal messy. I hate it.

I used 3M super duty compound on my sides. It worked ok. I then followed up with some meguiars medium cut then fine cut then wax.

The key to a great shine is patience. Take the time to do the extra two steps and it will turn out great.

It really all depends on how bad your finish is. Post a pic if you can.

All good points.

I had millions of off white dots everywhere when I did mine... that was fun to clean up. Masking things off would have saved tons of time.

If it is real bad start with Aqua Buff 1000. If it isn't so bad just use the 2000. It is always a good idea to bag/wrap/tape anything you can, because cleanup is a #$itch!!! BUT, it does the best job:brickwall:

aquabuff is a mess, i work for a fiberglass shop and we rarely use aquabuff unless its absolutely needed. 3m heavy cut gelcoat compound works very nice. if needed wetsand a few very oxidized areas with 600,1000,1200 and then use the 3m to take out the sanding marks.
