Can't See The Trim Tab Locator Gauge

Blue Mist '97

When out on the lake, I have a difficult (no, impossible) time seeing where the tabs are set on on the boat via the Insta Trim tab locator gauge. I have not been able to read this gauge since I bought the boat and figured that the gauge was bad. After overhauling the trim tab system this spring, I decided to find out if the gauge was working or not. One day while working on something else in the boat stall, I turned the batteries on and hit the toggle switch just to see. It lit up like a Christmas tree, very bright. Move it out in the sun or daylight and the lights just go away for me. My wife has pretty good eyes and she can make it out, but says it's very hard to see. Anyone else have this problem? If so, any known solutions?

I have never relied on it, since I can't see it, and just learned to adjust the tabs by feel. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to be able to see where the tabs are.

What about making an 'eyebrow' for it, kind of a pipe cut at 45* that sticks out from the top of the gauge to provide some glare reduction.
