Checkmate RideGuide to 3/4 tapered Steering Hub Conversion?

I am a service manager of a Marina at the Jersey Shore. I have a customer with a 1988 17' Checkmate with a 2002 Johnson 175hp. His Ride Guide Dual Rack Steering system has failed and we are replacing his steering with a Seastar Pro Hydraulic Steering system. My Problem is that the Steering wheel in the boat is a part of the Ride Guide helm System. The Wheel is sturdy and in great shape and the customer hates the idea of replacing it. I was wondering if there was a different Steering Wheel hub that can be installed to change it from the large square hole design for the rideguide helm to the 3/4 Tapered shaft and keyway design for all the newer systems. The steering wheel hub looks like it can be removed with several Hex head bolts. I have had no success in any internet searches and am Wondering if anyone else has encountered this before and whether they modified or just replaced the steering wheel. Any Feedback or information would be aooreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

I dont have the answer Bud, but I'd sure like to see how this comes out! I've been thinking of replacing the dual ride guide in my '92 with the Sea Star Pro..................
