Chine walking

I am new to owning my own boat so sorry if I have dumb questions. I have a 89 spectra 171 with a 98 mariner 150 on it with a 21 vengence on it. It chine walks at about 55mph. Just wondering what I can do to cure this problem?

:welcome:

Look up at the top tool bar on the page and click the 'search' link. Type chine into the search box, and you'll find all the info you need :bigthumb:

If you haven't found an answer already, here's the short version: learn to drive it. I've just started learning to do this myself since I was never hitting high enough speeds before. Only take the boat to the speed where the walking starts until you've mastered keeping it on the pad- it'll come with seat time. You basically want to give a small amount of quick steering input in the direction away from the walk... i.e. when it falls off to the left, input to the right and vica versa. Good luck!

chine walking

having dual cable steering with all of the slack adjusted out and the propshaft no lower than 3.5" below the pad will also help this considerably. Solid motor mounts are a good thing to have too.Welcome to the fun!!

snomo292,

Welcome to the madness !! If you'd like some more input on your chine walking maybe we could get together some where. (Little Lake Butte Des Morts) We could do a little on the water testing !
