GREAT WEEKEND!!! still need help

Well finally I am back at work and my computer. Vinny I have to say thanks to you and all the checky's who helped me out over the past couple of weeks the weather was great, water ways were full, and I was in the water for 4 days with no breakdowns. I still have some issues that i would like to solve if you could please help me with them.
1. During removal of the old outdrive that was grenaded it was in the forward gear so the linkage cable i think may have got tweaked a little. When I go from forward gear to neutral its like its still barely in drive and wants to bump in and out of gear you can feel the light shift in and out. It also does this from reverse to neutral as well.
2. On one occasion when I was leaving our mooring spot we coasted out to deeper water and I accelerated pretty hard up to about 3800-4000 rpms and it felt like the drive was slipping we actually lost propulsion and the engine reved up then it felt like it picked up and let loose again were the motor reved up again. At this point I let off the gas and coasted were I took it out of gear. It felt harder than it had been to take out of gear. I put it back in drive with no loud clangs or bangs so we went back to the dock to check it out. We tried to adjust the linkage but no success in adjusting it. It was still bumping in and out of gear.
3.The last issue is the drive when the engine is not running. If my memory serves me right the previous drives had no problem shifting forward to neutral to reverse with no effort without the engine running. This new drive is very difficult to shift without the engine running.
What are your thoughts on these issues.

Vinnie you are a cool dude this is exactly what i needed :thumb:
Also you dont have to be sorry me and the wife said thank you very much several times this weekend. We had a great weekend. What do you think about it coming out of gear the one time could it all be related. Should I go ahead and replace the shift cable its not kinked or bent its just not perfectly straight going into the outdrive. Also what is the time frame before you quit worring about breaking it in the right way. In other words when can I hammer it.:surf:

If your cable is only a little kinked where it goes into the jaws of the drive, I wouldnt worry about it. Most of them are kinked a bit there. Mine is!! Dont change the cable unless you have to. The issue with it coming out of gear may very well be related to the cable adjustment. Get it set right and retest, I bet it will be ok. I always tell people to run a new drive in for 5 hours or so at moderate and varied power levels. Then, change the gear lube. Drain the lube into a clean pan. With any luck, there wont be anything shiny in the oil when you tip the pan in the sun. Then hammer it with all its got. Just not in the air and no hole shots..
