How to adjust a walk-through windshield

Needafunboat

The walk through on the new boat is very tight. Like the port and starboard sides of the windshield are about 1/8 too close together.

So I'm thinking I need to move the windshield and side window assembly outward a touch. Can I just loosen the mounting screws and tap the outward or do I need to pull them and slot parts to do it?

Any other ideas. I already ground the center piece down a bit but it wasn't enough so I need to do more.

Thanks for any help.

Is your windshield the metal frame w push in rubber if so it may have gotten tweaked I've seen that happen close the windshield and check your sightline if the gap gets smaller as you go up this is the case to fix you need to pull the glass out on each side of the center re tweak the frame and reinstall the glass when putting it back together I would pack the corners w silicone to stop it from happening again also don't worry about the mess you can mix a spray bottle w half water and half denatured alcohol spray this on the silicone that squeezes out it deactivated the fresh silicone so that you can scrape it back off without making a huge mess
Very important close the center window before assembly shim sightline to desired thickness and leave everything overnight silicone when wet works very well as a lubricant it will allow things to move around

If that's not the case and your center is just too tight all the way up then you need to remove the center section probably a piano hinge unscrew those frames are usually screwed together at corners with a u shaped gasket around the glass take it all apart be careful not to switch pieces up
Check tolerances sometimes you can cut the frame and still reuse the glass Trim an eight of an inch off of the top and bottomof the frame on the end opposite of the hinge either reinstall old glass depending on setup or order a new piece an eighth narrower shouldn't be very expensive 1/4 tempered goes for about 6 dollars a square foot up here I doubt you have more than 4 squares
Not a huge project I can usually pull off either in about an hour at work but ive taken my fair share apart

Thanks! I have the second situation. I took it off and It looks like I'll might have to have a new piece cut. I'm not sure how far I can push it into the rubber piece - don't want to jam it in there and have the glass shatter when I hit a big wave or something. Only thing that might be tricky is if I have to drill/slot a mounting hole 1/8 in away From the original. Shouldn't be too bad, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the reply.
