IMCO Exhaust Risers...

I have a 1987 Ambassador. I recently just bought a set of IMCO exhaust risers and was wondering if any of you have suggestions about installing them. I was thinking about using a 90 degree elbow off the riser and a 90 degree elbow off the rear of the exhaust tip. Or do you guys think I should do a 90 off the riser and a 45 off the tip. Any suggestions would be great thanks!

on an ambasabor you should go straight to the transom no turns
maybe drop an inch or so just for good measure
the hose will flex that much

I've got imco powerflows and risers on my diplomat. There wasn;t enough room to go straight back, so I went with 90 degree elbows off the long risers, mufflers parallel to the transom and then 90 degree elbows to pipes through the rear above the rub rail. they seem to flow just fine. You should have plenty of room to go straigh back to tips...
 
it looks not only like you're tips don't line up with your new risers, but also like they're smaller in diameter than the risers. If it were me and I was sure I was'n going to change the exhaust configuration again right away, I think I would seriously consider getting bigger tips and relocating them to directly behind the risers. I realize that this would require doing a good job reparing the holes where the current exhaust tips exit.

If you're not sure, you could always go with rubber 90 degree elboaws at the top (4") a short piece of stainless or fiberglass tube and then another set of flexible and reducing elbows out the tips. That wouldn't require cutting anything, could be done for a little more than a couple hundred bucks, and would get you back on the water for the time being while you decide what you want to do longer term. For the longer haul, I don't like the idea of making anything downstream of the risers smaller in diameter.

I did something similar, but only because the long riser / power flow manifold combo I needed to real with possible reversion issues couldn't go straight out because the power steering assembly was in the way - it was really tight so I chose to do a similar thing to what I described above to allow the tips to exit much further to the sides and also let them come out well above the waterline. Instead of pipe, I used the distance to the side to add inline mufflers. If there had been any way to run them straight out the back, I would have gone that route...

The black rubber exhaust elbows I bought (Trident marine) were about $50 each (with stainless clamps), were easy to install with and seem to be sealing and holding up well. I stayed 4" for everything, but I remember that Trident makes the same elbows to connect different sizes of tubing.

I think I might just do the elbows. The tips that are on there now are 4 inch, and the risers are also 4 inch. I bought a new set of slash cut stainless tips to replace the rolled stainless tips that are currently on the boat. Do you guys really think it is a wise idea to do the 90 degree elbow idea or do you think i am better off selling them? Again thanks for the help.
