Insurance

I am trying to find insurance for the boat I have on order (2100 Pulsare BR with 225 Merc).

Progressive's website says they only insure boats up to 70 mph or 90 mph if it is a bass boat. WTF?!!! I would rather run 100 in a Checkmate than 90 in a bass boat! If I fish off of it, is it considered a bass boat?

Anyway, who do you guys use? Any body on the boat an insurance broker who want to make some money?

Thanks

i just got a quote from progressive direct for my predictor. 179 a year. that was with all the bells and whistles. when it came time to choose the motor size i first did it with a 115. then i figured i would change it to 200 to see if it would let me. it did. i didnt see anything about speed. i figured it wouldnt take that motor size for this hull. i should read the disclaimer before i fork over any cash.

I called a multi-line agent that also handles Progressive and he looked in his notes and they said a max of 75 mph on regular boats and he was as baffled as me on the 90 mph bass boats....

I got my insurance from foremost thru the guy who does my bike .he said they are really into recreation stuff. they said top speed on my enchanter was 48 mph. isaid wow ididnt know it could go that fast.he just chuckled ,OC

I think they use a formula - I was looking at getting an STV Euroski with a 280 on it. I called the insurance broker and he asked the obligitory question, how fast? I said probably in the 90's. He had to call me back - he stated that even Markel (a known high performance underwriter) didn't want to touch it as they calculated top end around 120. Scary thing is that is possible for one set up correctly....

I have also been told that if you lie (or omit the truth) that your claims could be denied - and if they aren't denied then you sure as hell will be dropped by the time the postman runs again!

So I am going full disclosure if they ask - I told them that the Pulsare with a 225 will run 70 to 75. I got quotes right now ranging from $550 to $680 for 100k in liability and uninsured boaters, 5k in medical, and a $250 deductible on a full replacement policy.

Later
