Is there a better sea water impeller gasket?

No matter how hard I try to be careful when I change my impeller I ruin at least one gasket in the process.
They're more than paper thin.
Is there an upgrade for this sea water fuel pump or even a heavy duty gasket?

Once the gasket is compressed, it is no longer re-useable. Do not let a 2 dollar part ruin your weekend.

It's not about reusing the gasket it's about trying to get it on without tearing it.
You're working with 3 large pieces and the 2 wear plates and 5 bolts and trying to line up the impeller without tearing the 2 toilet paper thin gaskets.:irked:

I am not much of a mechanic, could you possibly glue 2 together. My old International Harvester Lawn mower had a similar problem with a fuel pump.

I would use a Gasket Seal and kind of glue 2 gaskets together.

Like I say I am not a Mechanic by any means but it did solve my problem!!

The 2 piece sea water pump body is no longer available for my motor.
Not really a big deal other than a pita to replace the impeller.
Has anyone fitted the new style body?
It claims to be the update. Other than the hose fitting coming straight back vs mine are angled down 90*.

I upgraded mine the one piece years ago, much easier to work with plus the o-rings don't give you any hassle.

Cover the impeller with dish soap, the housing will roll right on.

I just did two myself. I used 90w gear oil. Light coat in housing and was easiest sea pump change I ever made. I used to use dish soap. Plus the oil will lube on the first dry start up.

Thanks guys
I wondered if there was a retro fit.
Saves me money from buying hard to find parts.
Beers for everyone.

I notice you have an HP 500. If your motor has a motor plate that mounts to the stringers like my old 525 SC had, the 1 piece housing wont fit. If you can't find the parts at the dealer you will have to look on ebay.

It looks like the new style would fit through the plate.
So the only other thing I would have to change are the hoses.
Is this what you had?
