LOOKING FOR A GOOD JACK PLATE THAT WILL WORK ON A MERCURY INLINE 6 . ALL THE ONES I KEEP READING ABOUT SAY THE MERC V6 , I GOT ONE BUT IT JUST ISNT LINIUNG UP SO I GUESS I SHOULD TRY SOMETHING DIFFERANT , ANYONE KNOW WHICH ONES WILL WORK I WOULD LIKE TO GET A 6 INCH SETBACK . ALSO ARE THE 1 PIECE BETTER THAN THE 2 PIECE ONES OR ARE THEY THE SAME . I WAS TOLD THE 2 PIECE ARE EASIER TO INSTALL .ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS OR ONE FOR SALE THAT WILL WORK THANKS.

i think the bolts dont line up because of age of your in line, where as in set back brackets are made in "bolt pattern standard". cmc makes an adaptar plate i know, but i dont know if it will work for your need.

All you'll need to do is drill the correct lower holes for the inline in the jackplate. The BIA pattern is different than the inline pattern for the lower holes.

bolt holes

mine is way differant i have 8 bolts holding engine to transom did some measuring and none of the 8 line up to where the bia standard is , do i need 8 bolts as i am reading most people have 4 bolts .i have the 2 lower bolts then there are 2 more big ones straight up from bottom 2 around 6 inches up then there are 2 going thru each one of the brackets under trim cylinders, thats 8 total and they all go thru transom 6 are in the splashwell and the 2 lower.if i was to use only 4 bolts which ones would i use the bottom 2 of course but which others ?

bolt holes

ok i did some actual measuring here we go bottom 2 bolts are 7 3/4 apart from each other then 6 inches up are 2 more bigger bolts, they are 7 3/4 apart then we have the 4 thru the trim cylinders they are 13 inches apart but could be the 12 7/8 and they are 2 1/4 apart from each other and the 2 big ones i mentioned earlier are 3 inches in from those

jack plate

i was told to use the 4 bolts that are 7 3/4 apart side to side and they are 6 inches apart up and down does this sound right .

On the transom side of the j/p, or the motor side?
If your inline is like every other one out there, the top bolts are spaced further apart than the bottom ones.

jack plate

so i could go with the top 2 at 12 7/8 apart where the trim cylinders are and the bottom 2 at 7 3/4 apart .

I'm pretty sure you have to go with 12 7/8 for the top bolts - those are the only mounting holes you have. There should be a few sets of lower holes that you can choose from, all at the same spacing.

I didn't see the post where you said it was attached to the transom with 8 bolts... yikes. Someone was a little paranoid when they rigged that thing. What size bolts are they? I believe mine are 3/8 for the lower holes, 1/2 for the upper.

bolts

bolts are 3/8 bottom 2 then the top 4 under trim cylinders also 3/8 then the 2 others are 1/2 or so .

Okay 8 bolts are alot and you may never be sorry with too many bolts. Most bia mounts are 4 bolt and belive they are either 1/2 or 9/19. most people with a v6 run only 4 bolt some heavy hp such as 300hp may run some additoina bolts in the top

you need to mount the motor and cylinders firmley so don't get caught up in the nuts and bolts
