Below are some additional pics to show the finished version of the new to me boat and a short list of the mods done.
Open bow conversion
Re-cover cabin seating from cloth to vinyl
Add step from cockpit into cabin
New cockpit carpet
New bow and cockpit covers
Bow doorway cover
Miscellaneous other small add-ons/fixes/repairs
After buying the new to me Hallett 270 in late February, I dropped it off at ARKO Upholstery in Lake Havasu for the conversion to MCOB along with several other mods and changes. While it took longer than I wanted, it WAS WORTH the wait. They did a phenomenal job, in my opinion.
Picked boat up in late May and headed back to Texas. Near the end of the 1400 trip a trailer tire separated. Fortunately, the tire did not blow out, so I limped on home. Next day, while changing the 6 yr old tire and replacing it with the 11 year old spare, I found a broken rear brake line dragging the ground. Hmmm....
I spent the last 5 weeks finding and fixing problem after problem. Nothing major, just irritating stuff. So, two new tires for now, the rest when it gets cooler (only trailer about 500 ft. from stall to water), several new brake lines, new master cylinder, reverse lockout solenoid, etc. Then, I noticed a nice sized puddle of oil under the lower unit. Yep, trim rams were leaking, then a bad battery and the mechanical trim actuator cable is broken. So, trim rams were overhauled, she gets a new battery next week, but the MTA cable is on the winter to-do list, along with a new Gaffrig Performance shifter, a new kill switch along with a list of other things I want to do.
With most of the gremlims fixed, we FINALLY got to get her wet for the first time today and this Hallett did not disappoint. She ran great. The 502 topped out at 4900 rpms, but speedometer wasn’t working right (already have a new gps speedo to replace it this winter), so I will take a portable gps next time. Lake was pretty choppy, but she cut through it like a hot knife through butter. First time out in it and my wife said she loved it, especially the new open bow. She couldn’t believe how good it rode. Win-Win…
Cockpit and mid cabin is a little messy. We haven't figured out where to store everything yet, but we are working on it.
