Motor transport

I am picking up a 1988 135 v6 merc in NC next week. Drive time is about 6 hrs total. I have a new steel motor crate that a 2005 honda 90 came in. Is this the best way to transport the merc. Didn't want to just set it in the bed of my truck and I think it is going to be really heavy and hard to move around. Any tips on transporting the V6 or on storage of my inline 90. Thanks !

When I went to the south Chicago area to transport my 2.0 150 that I put on the Vector, I just pulled the boat! When I got there, we transferred the motor from the stand to my transom, and I drove it back home

I've transported them many times by just sliding them into the back of my minivan. Two guys can do it in a pinch but 3 is better. You don't ever want to drop it. If you have a truck, just make sure you pad the bed with old carpet or something and tie it down so it doesn't slide around in a sudden stop.

Yea I put down some carpet in the back of the truck and straped it down so it didnt slide they are pretty heavy around 400 lbs

Derrick did you get my set up questions on the other post ??? I'm rigging out my Enticer the same as your's. Wanted to know a few things about your set up. THANKS

It is ALWAYS best to transport an outboard bolted down to a shipping pallet (like the factory does) if available, otherwise, supporting the powerhead on a bare tire is a good plan, and do the best you can at providing support as needed... Jim.

I picked up my 2.5 135 Merc last Sunday. 7 hour drive round trip. We used a new Honda steel shipping crate and boy did it work good. It was a 2 man job to load and unload after it was mounted in the steel crate. If you need to move a motor or store one I suggest you get your hands on a steel shipping crate
