Mr Wick,
Nice looking boat!!
Is that the Predictor you told me about??
It has seating up front?
Maybe I'm mixing up boats...
Anyway, enjoy the new Mate. Sure is fun!!

No 85 Predictor in these pic's yet, havenn't got a picture of it yet. These 4 boats are my previous Mates. The purple one(without the windshield was #1 and I don't know what year it wasEarly 70's I think.Boat #2 was a Trimate, middle 70s.Boat 3 was a 82 Diplomat(red one in the water and #4 was an 83 Entertainer with a 2.6xp Evinrude(about 73 mph) and that was in 1983.Will get the 85 Predictor on the site as soon as its running.

The pictures didn't do the Mates justice as some of the pictures were 20 years old, older that some people on checkmate-boats.I have several more pics but don't have a scanner but I will work on that.I am also the guy in Florida with dialup.....

Hey mrwick, how big was your first boat, I think I have the exact one... What was it powered by... how fast? Those things are sweet, I love Diplomats... used to own one

Duane, the Diplomat was my third Checkmate and it was really a nice little boat.It was a 1982 with a 140hp Evinrude on the back. The Checkmate dealer in Ohio did a few tricks with it and it would run right around 60mph.It had a strange sound to it out on the water because of the exhaust changes the dealer made.I traded it in on a 1983 Entertainer(the gray boat)with a 2.6XP Evinrude which would run in the 70's.My second Checkmate was a Trimate with a 135hp and the purple Checkmate was number 1 but I don't know what model it was.Number 5 Checkmate(no picture yet is a twin to 85Predictors boat, haven't got it running yet.

Duane,if you were asking about my first Mate(the purple one)I can't remember much about it because it was boat number one and I didn't really know what Checkmate was back then.I bought it around 1979/1980.It was purple but I repainted it Hugger Orange with metalflake to match my 74 Corvette. It had a 100hp inline 6 Merc and as I remember it was pretty quick.I have a couple more pictures of that boat after it was painted and will try to get them posted if your interested in seeing them.....

Duane,I just looked at the last in the list of entries in "THE SHOWROOM" and the 1968 v-161 Custom outboard looks alot like the first Checkmate I had and it could be the one you have if it looked like that purple one in my pics.Give it a look if you haven't seen it yet,the photos in "THE SHOWROOM".

If you've got some time I'd like to see whatever pics you've got of the first boat you owned. It might not be the exact boat I have... mine sounds smaller (only has a 50 compared to a 100) but if I find a 100 its going to be hanging on the back.
Thanks,
Duane
