I believe I asked this question before but dont remember if I received any responses.
Has any one mounted an XP 200 on a predictor?
also how much heavier is this motor compared to a merc 150 - 200?
I was thinking its pretty heavy but if anyone did it I'd like to know how it worked.
Just thinking about winter projects since the XP is hanging in the shop and no one seems interested in the predictor with the 115 on it.
let me know your thoughts.
that will also make the 115 available!!

Don't do it! My buddy has that setup on his 82 predictor and actually sunk it due to the weight of that motor. I am running a Merc 2.4 200 on mine that weighs somewhere in the area of 390lbs and that XP 200 is around 480lbs. He was turning and the boat slid then caught and did a high side. With all that weight back there it dipped the back corner in and the rest is history...we got the boat flipped back over and had it back out the next day but that's beside the point. His XP 200 is for sale and is now looking for something lighter... that motor just controls that boat too much cause of the weight, it's real radical driving...what year is your boat?

yeah then definitely stay away from a heavy motor...mine is a 79 and the glass is laid up alot heavier and thicker than my buddy's 82...Mine was a turd with the merc 90 on it I couldn't get much over 43-44mph and my buddy was running high 50's almost 60 with his merc 115...another example of weight difference, if we are beached he can pick the bow of his boat up over his head, when he tries to do that to mine he can barely get it over his waist.... there are guys on here with your style and lay up running mercs... chrispallen is running a merc 2.4 150 xr2 on his and he has no problems...just my .02...

what part of PA are you in?

actually an xr2 is a 2.0...which weighs more than a 2.4 does.
i think they can handle just about any horsepower, as i've got a 2.4 bp on mine which is 240 hp...properly setup the boat handles great. i wouldn't put a motor on that weighs over 400lbs, as mine sits pretty low in the water as it is.

good information, thanks. I think a 150 merc will bve a great set-up for that hull. It does run good with the 115 but it needs more. since no one is buying I believe I will pull the 115 and look for a v-6 this winter. I only used it twice so far this year because we had a lot of people with us each weekend and used the cobia and Grady white. thanks for the info I'll keep you posted.
also let me know if there are any 150 mercs available that anyone knows about and let me know if anyone needs a good 115.

Thanks for the correction...and I would have to agree it's not really the HP that's the problem as much as the weight.

perdictor motor

The XP 200 weighs 440 lbs. I would not mount it on the 16' hull, I have one mounted on a 17' Panther, witch is a V-mate2 hull, and it works great. On you're boat I would find a good 2.4 200 and mount it on a six" jack plate with solid mounts and tight dual cable steering and either a lwp nosecone or the Mercury water scoops and a water pressure guage. A Merc 28" chopper and start with the prop shaft 2" under the pad and go from there. These boats are a blast to drive once you get a little seat time in them!My 2 cents anyway.

I actually thought about swapping the 115 with the 175 merc on my cobia.
does anyone have a picture of a dual cable set-up on the predictor with a 6 inch jackplate?
I'd like to see where you brought the cables out of the boat and how that would look

perdictyor dual cable steering

If you look close at my avitar, I have a 6" clamshell with the two cables coming out on top of the right rear deck top in front of the motor.

when mine is done i'll be putting a 150 - hopefully an xr4, i think that will be an awesome combo.

I should be able to help you on this one. I've got a 1989 checkmate predictor with a 2003 115 HP 2 stroke mercury. This is my 11th year owning the boat. I blew up the origanal 1992 motor that came with the boat so I bought a motor new in 2005 as a leftover from local mercury dealer. I wanted to power-up but the dealer advised against it. The boat is rated for a 125 HP and I wanted to get at least. Dealer thought anything over 115 HP would sink it.
The boat will do 55 MPH at 5250 RPM. I get 57 MPH at 5400 RPM and I won't push it past that on the tach. Just have stainless laser 2 prop with 22 pitch.

I will find a bigger one. if you want the 115 make me an offer. that will help me look harder for the next motor. where are you located?

thanks for all of the info on putting more Horsepower on the predictor but I just sold it so it's on to the next project.
