Trailering Question

I am about to trailer my boat approximately 300 miles this weekend and have left the winter cover on it (it is a trailer-able cover). I was told by an associate that if I left the cover on, it would damage my gelcoat. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, why would they make a "trailer-able" cover? Anyone have experience with this?
 
Yes, it can damage the gelcoat. Any flapping it might do if it's not extremely tight will rub the gel and most likely dull it a little. I'm guessing that the title "trailerable" is referring to the fact that the cover will be able to withstand the trip, not that it won't damage the boat. I know personally the only cover I will trailer with is the cockpit cover, and that came straight from checkmate, so it doesn't move at all. I will never trailer with a full cover.

Thanks for that. My gelcoat ins't great, but doesn't need to get any worse. I will take the cover off and leave the cockpit cover on.
 
Good deal. The way I look at it is that it's a whole lot easier to clean off some road grime than it is to buff out dull spots.
 
Might want to put some tape on the front edges of the cockpit cover to keep wind from lifting it and possible "tenting" while driving. Some guys like to use the shrink wrap tape.;)
