Vintage Brass Ship Lantern Info.

Hello,
I am hoping someone here can help me with some info on an old ship lantern I have, or tell me where I can find some. The history, age, use, value, etc. I was was told it was an old whaling ship lantern. It was made by the A Ward Hendrickson Co. in New York. It is about 20" tall, made out of brass with a big red ribbed globe.
Thanks Steve
