winterizing mercruiser 470

ok since the engine uses antifreeze and water only goes into the heat exchanger what do i have to do to winterize. i know what to do to everything else except the engine. and the boat is being stored indoors just not heated. thanx!!!!

First off I would sart by running and fogging the engine. remove the air cleaner, while running at an idle spray into the carb marine engine fogging oil do not stall engine. You want to do this until you completly use up one can of spray, just before the can is empty spray and chock out the engine till it stalls. This will protect all of the internal compents from corrossion. Drain any water lines to the heat exchanger, oil cooler (if installed) by disconnecting them. I usually leave these line open throught the winter just incase of any remaining water.

I would highly recommend purchasing a Mercruiser manual which details out complete winterizing techniques.

Other than that prior to covering for winter i would purchase some moisture absorbing pellets and containers and place them throught out the interior and engine compartment.

Good luck. :thumb:
