ZT 280 - 74 MPH WITH 496 MAG HO

I just run a 2004 Checkmate 280 ZT - Mercruiser 496 Mag HO 425hp on the Ohio River. The boat ran 74 MPH ( speedo not GPS). That's awesome for that size of boat/motor combo. Everyone that drove it was very impressed. We hope The Cincinnati area falls in love with these boats, as we have.

The Boat felt good. I'll GPS it this weekend. It's on the water and we're taking people for rides this weekend (8/22-8/24). Come on down and you can see for yourself. Go to www.bethelmarine.com for direstions.

And bring your GPS.

Fryed,
I didn't mean to sound like an a..hole, But the 28'ZT weighing in at 4900lbs with 425 horse going 74mph defies everything iv'e ever researched on checkmate boats.a 260 convincor with a 454 mag with a stage 3 procharger set up will only run 73 on GPS and that motor with the procharger is putting out 565 hp to the prop. Granted the ratio in the drive makes a little diffrence but not that much. if the boat is running what you say it is, and i'll trust you when you get the gps reading i'll be there monday morning to pick it up from you...

I'd have to agree with the speedo being way off. According to my handy speed calculator, maximum speed for a hull in that power and weight range is 68-69 mph.
