Starflite Pad Revisited

I know this has been discussed a few times over the years, but nobody has ever actually gone through with it to my knowledge. I had a couple of 8' long scraps of 3/4" marine plywood laying around my shop and curiosity got the best of me. The pad is 7-1/4" wide and 1-1/4" tall. It runs right up to the notch in the hull (79") then tapers to a point. I'm pretty sure that the duct tape will not hold up too well at speed, but what do you all think about the design?

I'm wondering about the second set of notches in your hull. They're only in the lifting strakes, do you think a notch in the pad may help or hurt?

I don't have any good pics of it, but there is a 6" notch already.
 
There is a Pulsare on the board (TCAT) that had the pad widened to 10". It was the fastest hull with 225 around by about 5 MPH. I like you design and have thought about it myself. I would want to see the leading edge of the pad blend very gradually into the keel to avoid any drag at cruise.

Good point, I kept thinking the same thing myself. I'm going to try to cut the leading edge the same angle as the hull and blend it in for a nice smooth entry.
 
I like the blend, much better than what you first had. Gorilla tape would hold up better, but it is more expensive. Just sayin.....


While you got it upside down, check out the difference in the step from one side to another. :rof:


I need a Starflite so freaking bad.
 
I was thinking about using velcro, that way if I didn't like how it handled I could easily remove it :rof:
 
I like it. Looks very fast and maybe a little dangerous. Can't help wondering if a scag near the back would help. My jet has dual scags on ether side of the intake. I don't know. Just thought I would through it out there. Might even make it worse for all I know.
 
Motor will keep her straight, I think... I just wonder how bad its going to affect the ride in the rough.. probably land harder, but might not be that bad- who knows?

Its really a cool mod and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it!
 
I hope it works for ya, but the 2100 Pulsare that everyone keeps referring to was only 1mph faster than Jupiter Pulsare's 2100. Set up, prop, altitude, temp, water conditions, or even a difference in motors can make more than 1 mph difference. It all looks good and sounds good, but it looks like a bunch of work for 1 mph. Just my $.02

I'm mainly hoping for a more manageable ride at speed. If I gain a little on the top that's ok too. I'm hoping the flat pad will be easier to fly than the original V pad. I kept the pad relatively narrow (7-1/4") in hopes of keeping a decent ride as opposed to a larger pad like the referred to Pulsare.
 
Jup's Pulsare also was lightened up some when he did the floor... I don't know anything about the widened pad 2100 or the type of water either boat ran in.
 
Jupitar is at sea level. TCAT over 1000'. No comparison. That is 5 MPH right there.
 
I normally run my boat at 2 different places, 1 1660 and the other is 800. 2mph difference. If you go back and research the whole wider pad issue, I think it was Allison that widened the pad on one of there boats and it slowed down. Any way you look at it, wider is wetter and more resistance. All of these super fast boats are not even in the same class with a Cmate. The Allison grand sport is only like 20' 2" and not near as wide as the cMate and not even close to the weight of a 2100. I have said it before and I will say it again, make the 2100 as light as the other boats and it's narrow pad will be just as fast. It's kinda like comparing a 68 Camaro to a Vega, with the same power, which one will run the best. Any way, I hope the ride and handeling thing works out for ya.
