Alternative cover for trailering

I don't believe in using a cover while towing unless it fits very tight, even then I don't like it, I've seen motors with the paint worn right off from the tarp flapping on them, for keeping road grime out use a snug fitting snap on cockpit cover, the only way to go, for me anyway, and I had my tarp made so that the motor cover is seperate so that I can take it off for trailering if I need to have it on or am to lazy to take the whole tarp off.

never seen one of those tarps.

You can bounce a quarter off my tarp when its on and it doesn't move in the wind at all, but it was also 800 bucks

John-What kind of cover is that? It looks like it fits perfect and I need to replace mine, but wasn't sure what would fit best. I would like to have the ability to tow with it on if I needed or wanted to.

I bought a geza cover back in 99 when I had a sport bike. I used it when I hauled my bike down to spring break in Daytona and it worked great. I use it now to cover the harley over the winter. Fits pretty good considering it was meant for a honda CBR. Sorry, I always forget to resize the pictures.

Did you think it was going to rub through the paint of your bike while trailering it? Is their quality pretty good?

My float sits in my garage 99% of the time. I want it protected from rain when I'm traveling with it. This seems like a good way to do just that but I was worried about the"rub" factor. I don't have any snaps now and I kinda like It like that.

it's tough to find a good cover for trailering. IMO custom made is the only way to go. my 1987 Diplomat I/O didn't have any snaps and i wasn't about to install any on that beautiful gel. no matter how tight a snap on cover fits air will get under it and flap and stretch the canvas. i had a custom cover made for it out of the highest quality sunbrella material. it had double reinforcement on all pressure points, 5 tie down points on each side (kind of like john lamons) and i had a channel sewn in all the way around the perimeter with a 3/8" rope in it. on the front port side the two ends of the rope met with a rope ratchet in a double reinforced pocket with a velcro flap. the cover came down 4" below the rub rail so as i pulled the rope through the ratchet the cover naturally walked down the hull sides making it a very tight fit. and with the 10 tie downs snugged up it was drum tight. even in a heavy rain i never needed center poles. the water never pooled. i did tow with it a few times without any issues but i tried not to if i could help it. if there was a light mist i just towed without it. i think the cover cost me about $650 but it was well worth it.

I had it custom made at denham awning makers in town here, they have been making boat tarps since the 70's and have dimensions for almost every boat made since 75', I took the boat there so they could fit it to my accessories, here is another angle, they made it so I could leave my ski pole up too.

Droptop, I see your point of not wanting any snaps if it's always in the garage, my boat spends 3-4 days a week in the lake so the snap on covers are kind of a must have, a bow cover is the cheapest way to pick up 2 mph :poke:
