My first checkmate

i found them trim mounts on ebay.they came out after mine i believe.mine is all electric no hydralics, but ill look again when i get there.

this sure does got me wondering if it does have that.why would it need it?it has electric motor that turns worm gear to clutch.

The worm gear on the side of the drive? If so that is the tilt gear and will not hold the drive up under load. This is also the tilt that as stated earlier you do not want to use at any more than an idle as the ball gears between the drive and motor will wear out very fast. This gear is for trailing and such only.

I agree with dream4ta, this set up was only designed as a tilt function or to be used at an idle, not as a drive trim. If you have it tilted up and accelerate it will slam down and eventually tear something up. We had the same set up on one our older boats and it worked fine as long as we used it as intended. Jim

your right motor does move up and down. How far is it suppose to trim up.I cant believe they put these on boats.why couldnt they just added a cv joint.sometimes it didnt want to trim up and down just clicking, guess thats another project.hopefully just not getting good connection.I didnt see a trim pump anywhere.
guess i need to get back in the book and see.But really i would have never guessed it had that on motor mount.dont remember my 4cyl omc motor that i had pulled didnt have it.

If i remember correctly there was a patent issue with Mercury and OMC was not willing to pay to use it so that they could use u-joints or the like. This system worked fine in normal runabouts when used properly and maintained. Just have to keep an eye on the drive seal as it can create a very big hole for water to flow very fast!! OMC used this system for quite a few years tho. I think that early mid 80's might have been the end of it tho..

thanks guys that actually relieves some stress.guess ill start a new thread with the build.do you know how the trim works,i dont see a pump anywhere?it has one cylinder in the middle.does it have limit switch so it doesnt go to high?

Yes on the 800 stringer the front of the motor mounts on kind of a bridge set up and a screwjack kind of adjustment. There should be a trim motor down there on the port side.

Oops you got this answer already

Front of motor moves about 4 inches

sometimes it didnt want to trim up and down just clicking,

That is the relay not always working, there are at least 2 relays, one for tilt and one for trim mounted at the front and near the top of the motor. You will hear them click, tapping on them may move the steel contact disc inside to a new spot and make a better connection so it works for a while, but really they need to be replaced for reliabilty.

No pump, all electric and gears

Don't think there is a limit switch, just a mechanical stop to run up agaisnt. So holding down the button while in the full up/down position could burn out the motor with enough time.

Thats what i needed to know.sounds better every minute.Well i was in boat today found some more soft spots in the middle.I was hoping just floor replacement.Looks like ill probaly have to gut it.How big is gas tank on these?new stringers, floor, new gas lines, man id be better off with new boat, but i sure like this thing so im gonna go for it.I just wish i had a donor boat to switch to mercruiser.I guess you just fill in the whole then cut a new whole.Ill post some pictures when i get boat back to my house.gotta wait for dam code inforcement to rienspect for dang car parked in yard.Hope this thing fits behind my gate.

But you said it and it is true, you would be better off buying a sound boat with Merc outdrive for $5000-7000. You will most likely have all of that and more into this one by the time you are finished and it will be a good long while before you drive it.

Entertainers are rare and the color combo on that one is great, but it's little sister the Eluder is much more available and nearly the same boat. It's 18'6" rather then 20'6" and while the extra 2 feet are nice in a boat this size, side by side you would find it's not an absolute must have.(Eluders tend to slide into garages easier too) With a little looking around you can find at least a few 82-86 Eluders with 260hp/350ci Merc power in very well taken care of condition. At this time of year you might get one for less then $5000. You still have to be a very careful buyer but the right boat would save you money in the end.

Check out SCT's craig's list thread. There have been a few come up in the past 6-12months.

If you would rather go ahead with this boat, I get it, it would look great redone.

ill have to check them out.But yeah i dont have any money not even 500.I just gotta do little at a time as i get the money.I will never buy boat full price.I always take chances, buy only if its a steal.I think this one be clean if i could chop windshield.seems like every boat i get that i like is red,and thats not my color,ky blue with metal flake i like.speed boat/family boat i do like.I wonder if anyone has ever played with the motor mounts on these to get some more trim, say like lowering the front mount.I know these boats gotta plane in like 2sec anyways.bass boat my dad had would plane anyway you had trim.

Im also a fishing guy,i want to add some those pole holders that go in the boat, and sit flush.I found some pompanette ones.like to have 2 in back two in front.Id rather not have the detachable ones,if anyone has any pictures how they did theres rather it be detachible or what.I cat fish.dont really bass fish, but want to go try strip's out.

If you don't want to pull water skiers or people on tubes then you could chop a 1/2 - 1 inch out of the engine mount block and glass it back up tight. If needed you could always put a spacer back in to get back to stock. If you do pull people you would find the bow rides too high at tubing speeds, unless you have people to sit up front and weigh it down.
