    Yes the motor and tach are both from another (the same) boat. Im not sure if it worked on the other boat I never ran it on the water so I only witness it at an idle. Im not sure about the charging system, not even sure how to check it.

    HOW FAST IS YOUR CHECKMATE? EVERYONE!

    '76 V-mate I with 115 Johnson with stock 13X19 prop 48 on GPS loaded with 3 people all over 200 pounds....Not impressive but its an old beat up boat and an old worn out 1974 motor. Have run 54 with me alone but its a scary ride.

    Tach help??

    I swapped motors on my V-mate and swapped the tach with the one out of the boat the motor came off of. The tach works but isnt reading right, when on the water at WOT it only reads about 1500 RPMs. I have gone through all the wireing rechecked everything several time. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Just put a 115hp Johnson on mine. Soooo much better than the 75hp that was on it. Handles alot nicer, rides smoother with the added power trim.

    Thanks for the advice on that. I changed all the lines on the motor, but didnt think about the main line from the tank or the balls. I just got back from the lake and it runs great for a motor that hasnt seen water since 1994..lol It will put you back in the seat on that little V-mate I. Big...

    ok pulled the top carb and dissasebled and checked everything and blew air through all the passages. I didnt see anything out of the ordinary but when I put it back on and fired it up problem solved!! Must have had some dirt in it. Thanks to all you guys for the help!!

    Sorry I forgot to add the compression on all 4 cylinders is 120 psi. The fuel has been changed also. I did as you said and there is no change with cylinders 1 and 2 but 3 and 4 kill the motor if pulled. The top carb supplies the top 2 cyliners correct? If it was the trigger (timer base) it...
