    Is motor to big for my boat?

    80mph would be nice, but i don't need to be there yet. How would i get more speed without replacing the engine, is a jack plate my only option? What is a good or bad jack plate to get?

    Is motor to big for my boat?

    Not to hijack the thread, but i have a similar question regarding my 1992 Checkmate Pulse 185. It currently has a 175 outboard motor that runs the boat about 58 mph. I was looking to find my way to about 65-70mph. What is my best way of doing this? The boat says it is only safe for a 185hp...
