    1600BR setup and overheat problem.

Thanks very much for all your replies, and suggestions. It's great to have a forum of such knowledgeable folks available. I put the boat back in the water this weekend after having the water pump replaced. The pressure gauge does work, and showed good pressure. Over the winter, I'll have...

    1600BR setup and overheat problem.

Thanks all for your help. I'm sorry it took so long to reply. I let work get in the way of boating again! I took photos, but can't figure how to attach them. I measured, and the cavitation plate is 2 1/2 inches above the pad. The outboard is mounted in the third hole from the top. The prop...

    1600BR setup and overheat problem.

Thanks. I'm picking the boat up tomorrow as is, and will attach pictures of the transom clamp bracket and prop shaft. Can you describe the "pad" and where you are measuring to 4" to 4.5" from to the middle of the prop shaft? Thanks again for your help.

    1600BR setup and overheat problem.

I just got in touch with Checkmate. The new management were much more helpful than the old! They suggested that the cavitation plate above the prop should ideally be 1-2" above the bottom of the hull. I will go to the shop tomorrow, and check it. (They are closed on Monday.) They are also...

    1600BR setup and overheat problem.

I have a 1600br with a factory mounted 115 Optimax. I have a total of 28 hours, and a water pump failure. The mechanic says the outboard is mounted too high. It came mounted in the second hole (from the top) in the mounting plate at the top transom hole. The mechanic says it needs to go down...

    Wax/Polish/Maintenance Recommendations for New Checkmate

Thanks to your advice and recommendations last summer on a separate thread, I purchased a new Pulsare 1600 BR with a 115 Opti last winter. I am a few short weeks from putting it in the water for the first time, and would appreciate tips and recommendations about waxing/polishing/maintaining a...

Evinrude E-TEC 115 vs. Mercury Optimax

Thanks for all the discussion about the Opti v Etec. Can anyone elaborate on JW's experience with the 90 Optimax? That sounds like a concern. It really is a tough decision between the two. Merc's reliability and dealer support and E-Tec's quiet fuel efficient ride. Anyone have an E-Tec that...

Evinrude E-TEC 115 vs. Mercury Optimax

I recently posted an introduction to the forum under the title "recommendations". Based upon members' advice, I am ordering a new Pulsare 1600 BR from Fargo next week. Aside from the logistics of acquiring an Evinrude vs. a Mercury, does anyone have experience or knowledge about the...

    Recommendations?

Thanks very much for all your advise. To answer a question, the lake is small, protected, and always calm. Another was whether I had considered a jackplate. Although, I know what a jackplate is, I don't know what it's purpose is necessarily or to what advantage it might be to my...

    Recommendations?

I live next to a private lake in the Pacific Northwest. To use the lake, I have to trailer on and off the lake daily via a narrow ramp. I have a bay in my garage 25' long dedicated for a boat, but only an 8' door, and a steep driveway. My purpose for a boat is as a family runabout (small...
