Champion or NGK for 89 Evinrude 225?

Combat, thanks for your info, I'll try and see if I can find those plugs but at what price. So does this mean that if I can score some iridium plugs that the Mercs are in for a "Rude" awakening????

Champion or NGK for 89 Evinrude 225?

So it sounds like some have done ok with Champion and others haven't. Mr.Buss have you had OMC outboards that you had problems with the plugs?

Champion or NGK for 89 Evinrude 225?

I have an 89 Evinrude 225 with a rebuilt powerhead. The old OMC factory people say to stick with the Champion plugs recommended by the manufacturer QL77JC4 which I have been using or QL16V for sustained high speed. I am hearing that NGK makes a better plug. The only one they list for my engine...

Do I need more positive trim angle?

Thanks Mark for setting me straight on those issues. Sounds like maybe I have been giving it too much trim because thats what worked best before the j/p. Will try some different settings and see what happens. Sometimes hard to get much of an oppotunity to do that with just two people...

Do I need more positive trim angle?

Thanks for your comments guys. I agree that 65 on gps is a respectable speed, it just feels to me that there is a little more in this boat and I am trying to get the most out of it. It will try to chine walk but you can steer thru it. Mark, Re: your question “why can’t I use 5-6 deg of trim”...

Do I need more positive trim angle?

Do I need more positive trim angle? I have a 1989 Spectra 201, 89 225 Evinrude. Picked up TCAT’s home customized jack plate, ML-65 built out to 11 ½” setback. This is a good unit, thanks TCAT. The boat could never throw a rooster tail before and even now only when jacked up and at slower speeds...

    Looking for TCAT's jack plate

TCAT I see that you had a homemade jack plate for sale. Do you still have it. I need something for my Spectra and I think that unit may work for me untill I can go hydraulic. Tried to direct message you but not sure if you rec'd it.
