I have a 1988 Checkmate Perdictor with a 88 Merc inline 6. It has always idled high which is tough on the lower unit. I have looked and tried to adjust everything on the engine to lower the idle below a 1000, but I don't see how to get it lower. Even when I manually force the carbs against the...

    NEW PROP 1988 PREDICTOR

I have an old mercury prop 13" diameter 21 pitch and looking to replace it. I weas considering a Mercury Trophy Plus hoping it will help with cornering while puling skiers and help some with acceleration. I have an 87 Mercury Inline 6 and can get 55 at 6000 rpm wot. Any thoughts on the Trophy...

    115HP Inline 6 1988 new cylinder cover

Thanks everyone, now I get it, the plug passes through the cover and threads into the block.:o For the previous repaired hole any recomendations on what is best? I have looked at keencert and Time-sert. the Time-cert is a bit pricey for the tool kit? Any one know where one can be barrowed...

    115HP Inline 6 1988 new cylinder cover

Looks like the heli coil has been done once already on one of the tappings. I'm not sure that it can be taken out and done again. The New cover itself looks to be the right cover. I guess what I don't understand is how would this new cover be used? If their were no holes drilled at the spark...

    115HP Inline 6 1988 new cylinder cover

I order a new cylinder cover (old cover had two stripped spark plug holes) from Boats.net and the cover has tapered not tapped oversized holes for the spark plugs and the top plug opening intersects the temperature switch. What do I need to do to get tapped openings? Is their a part or piece...

    88 Predictor rigging

I don't have jack plates. Maybe down the road. So lower won't help the hole shot. It sounds like you use your jack plates to raise it. Would raising it help? the eailier thread said "its still deep enough to take off very, very well" like making it deeper would be better. I'm not quite...

    88 Predictor rigging

I have read several threads on boat rigging and I am still confused. I read about prop shaft height and and unsure what is the best starting place. From what I am gathering the higher the better (water pick up aside), but my impression is that it will effect the time to plane and might make it...

    1988 Mercury Inline 6 Boggs

Bogging I did find the rectifier bad which explained charging ever so often. But it did not fix the bogging problem so lastitem left in the fuel chain was the fuel pump. Though I rebuilt it 2 years ago that seemed to fix the problem. Thanks again for all the help:surf:

    1988 Mercury Inline 6 Boggs

Mercury Bogs Thanks for the quick response. I have checked all the fuel lines and even replaced the primer bulb. I have not checked the rectifier but I will and let you know of the results. Love my Checkmate and hope to use it some more this year. Thanks again

    1988 Mercury Inline 6 Boggs

I have a 1988 Mercury Inline 6 that starts well and was running great untill two weeks ago it would start out of the hole great and I would run it up to 5000 to 6000 rpms for top speed but it then it would either bog down and stall or run at reuced rpms. It seems if I throttle back for a bit I...
