The foam removed was forward of the gas tank and to the starboard and port of the gas tank. Since I had to remove my floor and stringers, removing the foam was easy, lots of prying. Then we ground any excess foam on top of the core to clean things up before installing the new stringers. The foam doesn't add any strength, just flotation if the boat were to take on water. The coast guard does not require foam on boats in excess of 20' if I'm not mistaken. The foam does sound insulate the boat though. You'll hear more water slapping without it. I'd rather save the weight and have less risk of damp foam than making the boat quieter.....besides, you hear no water slapping anyway at 70+ mph!!!
