Pulse 170 Setup/ updated speed

This is my best setup to date w/ two people full tank of gas (32gals) and cooler in the boat. I had started out at 3" below pad 6" JP w/23P Tempest Plus and worked my way up. I'm now 2" below the pad, I've added water scoops and 25P Tempest prop. The weather was hot (96*)and sunny, wind about 10-15 mph slight chop. Before my best was 70mph, yesterday 74mph GPS. I think I could've hit 75mph but had to slow down for no wake zone. Since the engine is raised up pretty high I've got little chine walk now.

So the new setup:
Pulse 170
Merc 200HP EFI
6" Jack plate
25P Tempest Plus 2" below pad
water scoops

Congrats on the new top speed.:thumb:

You lost the chine walk you had by raising the motor, or gained a little by raising it? Just curious.

Thanks!!!! I gained top end speed as well as loosing most of the chine walk by raising the motor. I also tighten up my steering cables.

bada$$ 75

what rpm was that at

might be time to look into a mazco or hoss triton

daren

Daren I'm not sure if my tach is correct but I pegged 6000rpm. My tach only goes to 6000 rpm's and the motor suppose to have a rev limiter on it.

NICE Numbers....

Where did you get the scoops?

Fiftyp, I got them from a merc dealer. I think they are called water intake scoops. Here's some info from an old post that I posted a while back.

Today I purchase the scoops from a Mercury Dealer. They actually had them in stock. For those that are interested in the scoops, they're called "High Speed Water Pickup" part #17280A2. I'm hoping to install them tomorrow. Now that i've added water temp and pressure gauges, water pump, thermostats and a jack plate hopefully i can get a few runs this weekend and play w/ the setup. Here's what they look like not installed.

Now throw out the dead weight passengers, run the gas down to 1/8 tank, tight fitting bow cover, and run her again!! :cheers You'll hit 80 easy with those 'mods'

Where do I get a bow cover, is it something I can order or do I need someone to make it? Btw I'm not sure I've got the nads to drive it 80mph, not just yet anyway.:o

you have to have the bow cover cusom made and istall the snaps on the boat
you will need at least one support bow underneath

awesome #'s igot mine up to 30 today :irked:, my youngest son wasn't in the boatin mood today ,which makes my wife stress n so on ,but @ least we were on the water :surf:! saw a nice hydrostream ,& a glastron both very sharp n wanted to play, but we were in cruise mode bimini up !

PVS (vent plugs)

I'm amazed at what these plugs can do just by adding different sizes to the prop. I started out with the large plugs that came with the prop. The prop would spool up then take off like a rocket, the boat was on plane by a boat length. I tried the small plugs next, the boat acted like it was pulling a barge, it was a dog out of the hole. The boat take forever to get on plane. Lastly I tried the medium plugs ,didn't spool up quite like the large plugs but great hole shot. So I decided the meduim plugs fit my boating needs the best with no lost of top end speed.

So my long journey of setting up the Pulse 170 has come to an end without modifying the engine to get even more top end.:( As many of you know that followed my other posts, between the frustration of a bad water pump, the cranking issues and the rough idling this was/is a very rewarding outcome for me. I would like to thank all of you who had some input on each issue and a special thanks to a forum member (xsive)who doesn't post, but helped with a few phone calls and alot of pm's. :cheers:thumb:

Chris you've got a great group of guys here, they might not all agree on the topic at hand, but in the end they're always willing to help a fellow member.:bigthumb:

The final setup:
Pulse 170
Merc 200HP EFI
6" Jack plate
25P Tempest Plus 2" below pad
water scoops
(PVS)Medium Plugs in the prop.

Did you ever run it with a bow cover on before you sold it? my boat is good for 2-3 mph better with it on.

And why did you sell this bad a$$ boat again???:poke:

No I didn't!!! I keep asking myself this same question, the only explaination I have is wanted a bigger boat for when the lake got rough. I would've settled on a 21 br if I had to do over.
