Active member
I have an 85 Diplomat, 16 foot, and would love to swap the windshiled for eith a new 08/09 low profile or an older low profile to give this boat a sleeker look. Anyone have any help or hints for this???

TIA!!!

There is no other windshield that fits that deck. You cannot cut it down because it is tempered glass. You would have to get one custom made from an auto glass place perhaps.
I personally like the higher windshields. I have a full convertible top that snaps on for rainy days. Anything lower would not work.

Thanks...I have seen brochure pics with a low profile W/S and I thought when I used to work at a CM dealer, we had these boats with lower W/S's, but I may be wrong. I do not use windshields for protection, if this was a closed bow, I would build a fairing and if a fairing was offered on my Formula, I would have gotten it. Given that, I do have a full camper top on my Formula that I LOVE for spending the night...

That is a good looking boat, but I agree the windshield needs to be chopped.

Only problem is, when you chop it, the top framework on the sides will be too short. You will need to shorten the bottom side piece, or get a longer top peice. All the angles of the framework will change. This may leave you with uncovered holes in the deck.
The glass isnt a problem, toss what is in there and get a piece of tinted Lexan or Polycarbonate. Any glass place or Tons of interent places can cut it to size and it isnt very expensive.
Get after it and post some pics.

Looks like your boat was set up as a 'ski' model like my current Pulse 170. I think dealers ordered the taller windshield whenever a customer that liked to ski a lot ordered a boat.

I didn't like the taller windshields until I ran around in my Pulsare at 70+ mph speeds, then I wished the Pulsare had the taller shield. Still though, your boat's got a REALLY tall glass. I'd think you could do some easy cutting and fitting with some smoked plexi or lexan that would look great!

Yes, this is VERY tall glass!! The previos owner only used it to ski. My las Diplomat of the same year had a much lower windshield.

I would prefer to find another low windshield and just swap it, but I may just cut it and replace with lexan...

I don't think so. The Sportfire is the closed bow version and has a low windshield. The Enticer is an open bow with a low windshield but it is narrower so it will not fit the Diplomat.
As mentioned, you could pull the glass out, cut down the frame and install plexiglass or have a auto glass make you tempered glass to fit. It is not that difficult since the glass panels are flat. You can make cardboard templates and bring them to any auto glass place. I did a side window for my Starliner. It cost $150. So $600 for a full windshield seems like a big expense on an old hull. Plexi should be cheaper.

Thanks for the input!! My memory is just not what it used to be on all of the different models!!! I wonder what the dimensions are for the new 16 Pulsares and windshields...Hmmm, I guess I should give Mike a call too!!

Good idea! If the new Pulse 1600 windshield would actually fit your boat, it would really update the look!

Coop tells us the 1600 is based on the Enticer hull not the Diplomat which means it will probably be too narrow. Plus it is integrated into the deck shape whereas the Diplomat has a flat deck. Good idea though, if it would fit.

Well damn...
