500 Hp Build Thread

Well here it is, was meaning to get this up sooner, but anyways in the process of building a more productive power plant for the ol' convincor. It all started by just pulling the motor to do a simple coupler swap and well here it is today. I owe Jeff a big thanks for the build and hopefully if all goes well I can pick it up tomm., drop it in this weekend, and lastly finally make the LC get together (fingers crossed for a smooth transition). Anyway Bob and Jeff came up with a great combo, switching to AFR aluminum heads, cam, freshen bottom end ect. Should be reliable and produce some pretty nice hp numbers. Thanks again for everything Jeff.

How's the build going?

Its going very well and runs like a top. I still have some adjustments to be made to get the most out of what I got. Since getting the motor in around mid July I found a rebuilt/resealed xr so made the swap to that. Its a different g/r than I was previously running so still trying to dial in props currently. Best I've seen so far is 71mph but I ran out of prop and the water was like glass and I've learned convincor's like chop and usually good for a couple more mph. Over the winter I plan on wrapping it, hydraulic steering to the helm, and maybe collect all my data and send a couple props off to be labbed to see if I cant get 80mph out of it.

Hydraulic steering is my next project. I hate my steering.
Not sure why I've waited for so long.
Keep us updated on that.

can tell you, the dash install is a pain on 253's and takes a special length steering hub to get right
I was taking a serious look at that and wondered how to do it.
There isn't even an easy way to change out gauges or get behind the dash.
