Back in a checkmate

I have been absent from this forum for many years. I’d say at one time I was one of the most active members. Life happened, got married, had kids, and work, work, work.
I’ve owed many checkmates but have been mostly running CC boats due to where I live and fish. However, I did put away one special checkmate in storage about ten years ago. It’s a 1972 Mx-13. I bought it for my daughter when she was two years old so we could one day restore it together when she was old enough. She just turned 12 and now is the time. I dug the boat out and towed it home. Here are pics of it after I got it home and cleaned it out. Before I stored it away I replaced the transom and about 12” of core material at the stern. Filled the old rigging holes. Separated the cap and reinforced the front deck and bow eye. The plan now is to flip it and straighten the pad and prep it for paint. Let know what you think.

Nice to see you back!! I also sold my last Checkmate a little over a year ago and somewhat wishing I would’ve held on. I’m missing the speed and performance a bit, however, I have been playing with my little Barracuda 188 Center Console and have been enjoying the boat!

You are not fooling anybody but yourself Jup. You are a two boat family and will jump on the next good opportunity you come across. It might not be a Checkmate but I bet it is fast.

I’ve had a few CCs over the years. Purchased a new Sea Born LX22 last year. I have a 70hp Johnson for the MX13 but will likely find a 25hp for it so my daughter can run it.
I’ll increase the HP as her skills and confidence increase.

Things have been crazy busy at work lately but I finally have some time to start on the boat. I Gotter flipped over and found a few spots where the chisel went through the hall when the core was replaced. I am going to be adding to the pad to make it 3 1/2 inches wider. Any suggestions on how long I should make the pad?

I just put a pad on an MX13, 7 1/2" wide, ran it up 8', and blended into the hull. Picture is in process of filling and blueprinting. My 15' Allison is about the same where it just blends into where the hull curves.
