Hello, I'm thinking about getting this boat, I have a 150 efi 6 cylinder to out on it. Do you think the motor is to heavy for it ?
Also was considering putting the gas tank up front underneath to help with the bow lifting.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The owners took off the motor and controls but I have the Mercury motor.

What year engine, what does it weigh?? The old inlines weigh about 300 pounds and handled the weight pretty good.

Hello, the motor is a 1998 Mercury 150 efi it weighs @ 450 lbd

Old school way was with the engine attached, have somebody stand on the transom and see watcha got, has the transom been replaced and beefed up to handle this much weight??? Just sounds heavy?? Very nice looking boat, tho and welcome to the site. And where are you at??

Transom seems real solid no spider cracks has a piece of aluminum folded over

I'm looking at an old Mercury tower of power 115 hp 6 cylinder supposed to be alot lighter than the xr6. Does anyone think this motor would be a better choice.

Tower of power was always popular on the back of Checkmates. If you can find a 140 or150 horse, so much the better (same weight). After about 1986 the engines were prop shaft rated instead of power head rated, so, a 140/150 horse became the new 115. Good luck
