I go to that site all the time. Lots of Mates there, the only thing I find is that some of the ads seem to be a little outdated at times. But it's a good site for sure.

Yup, I'm sittin on the good old Rock without a boat. (motorized boat anyway) Been visiting all of the sport shows lately. Little disappointed. Last year I went to the Milwaukee show with the idea of buying a new mate and the dufus salesguys wouldn't even give me the time of day. My sister was with me that day and she bought her new boat. (Skeeter) I just figured it wasn't my time to buy a boat... Too bad for the sales guys....

Checkgal and other Checkmate fans...

I know what you mean...I sense a severe lack in marketing these fine boats. I was just at the Detroit Cobo Hall Boat Show (the largest in Michigan), and not one single Checkmate!!! How SAD is that??? My local dealership was K&M Marine over in Redford, Mi. (I take a bullet before I'd deal with those jerks again...thankfully, Checkmate is no longer offered there). With that said, there are only two Checkmate dealerships in Michigan...I think Premier Motorsports (western side), and some little hole in the wall shop in Dexter (maybe still)? What gives with no dealerships on these boats...look at the dealership links on this web sight and you'll see what I mean??? If you know of any other dealships selling Checkmates let Chris know so he can post them!

I have had 5 Checkmates to date; two of which I bought new...a 15' V-Mate 1 with a 140 Merc I-6, and an enchanter XS with that monster 300 Merc V6... Both purchased from "Sammy" at Action Marine in Dearborn, Mi. when they were in still in Business. I see lots of newer Checkmates around my area, so where are they coming from???

I would love to see more Checkmate exposure... at boat shows, in magizine tests, and more dealerships! If the factory ever needs a hand "marketing" these boats... help with boat shows, customer demos, product tests, etc. I'm sure there are several Checkmate "goo-roo's" that would step up to the plate including myself!

Just my "Checkmate" thoughts... Jim

Hey Jim, So you suppose that the dealers don't make as much off a check as they do off of the other boats they handle? I'm headed for the RV and Boat show in Chicago this weekend just to see what's there. It's by O'Hare airport. Lookin at boats is always a good way to spend a cold weekend in the winter.

Do you think perhaps the dealers don't make as much off a "check" as they do off the other boats they sell? Rare breed indeed....

Correction on boat show dates. Weekend of Feb 21st. Would you believe the boyfriend got me half way to Chicago before I found out he had the dates wrong. Ah well ..The Museum of Science and Industry was interesting. Also second message from other night isn't suppose to be there.....

Hey:
a month ago we had a little chat about boat shows and the lack of checkmates at them. I'll post the thread: http://checkmate-boats.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=8626072361&f=7106095561&m=588008916

Now if that looks like the garbage I see on my screen as i type this, go to the play to win forum and check out the "No Checkmates at the Toronto International boat show" topic. I've worked aat many marinas over the years and have done many boat shows. My rant on that topic should clear up a couple of your questions, and give you a glimpse at what makes a boat show booth happen. Any other questions, just ask - i am a most unwilling boat show expert.

OOps, No offense intended. The thought being that maybe the prices were set and the dealer didn't have much to work with compared to other makes.

It's not that the prices are set. The factory will set its MSRP. The dealer can use that or any other pricing they wish. As far as I am concerned, Checkmates should be a more profitable line for a dealer, limited markets, high quality and limited supply will allow for premium prices. That said, the checkmate dealer will not sell the volume of a Sea Ray dealer, as the market is very small (relatively speaking). The great thing about a checkmate franchise over say a bayliner franchise is (or appears to be) a small dealer network. This means there is no price wars or back stabing because the dealers are far enough away from each other. You want to see back stabing sometime - just go to a fishing boat booth at a boat show (lund, smoker craft, etc.). You may end up paying a little more for your boat than if 5 checkmate dealers were in your town but, the theory should also hold that your dealer provides you with EXCEPTIONAL service to justfy the premium.
