can i put a 150 hp black max on my v-mate with out it ending up on the bottom of the lake. if i do am i going to get a ticket for having that motor on a boat rated fo 100hp????

It doesn't sound like a smart idea to me.

That's close to a thirty year old boat at this point.

You might want to check with your insurance company too, if something bad were to happen you could end up not being covered because the boat is overpowered.

78VMATE...

My first Checkmate was a V-Mate-1, 15 footer and it was rated at 100 hp. The motors for that boat was the 85-100hp versions of the Evinrude or Johnson V4 or the Merc In-line 6. I ran mine with the Merc 140 inline 6 and it was a blast but exactly safe
 (it was dressed in 90hp decals of course to L@@K legal).

If your talking about a 150hp inline or a similar WEIGHT motor to which the boat was designed, you better make sure the hull is 100% sound or rework it to be sure to handle the power... BUT... I would NOT hang a heavier motor on it!!! You then have the insurance/liability issues Chris mentioned to think about. Jim
