1985 eluder prop ideas

1985 eluder

Member
hey, i have a 1985 checkmate eluder with a 2.5 200 efi bone stock. it has a cmc 6" jackplate.(had a 10 and rode terrible with too much bow lift). 6" is perfect ride and bowlift. i have a 24' turbo prop 14.25 diameter currently and have run a best of 65 mph at 5800 rpms. this prop runs great but tachs too much for me when cruising. it takes off with no problems fully loaded and is a great ski prop. wanting to try a prop with a higher pitch to relax the engine a little and maybe get a little more top end.
also, i have run a 23' laser 2 and speed was about 60 at 5800. this prop lost grip in turns. i have also tried a 23' tempest plus that ran about 60 at 5400. this prop was hard to take off with pvs plugs in and a little better out. and had way too much bow lift. never would tach over 5400 at wot.
engine is also set with propshaft 3 1/2" below pad. any higher and prop loses grip and slows down. will this boat go any faster with a prop change?

Those are pretty good numbers with the Turbo. You don't actually want to prop it for less RPMs. You put more stress on a motor when you lug it. I would prop that motor to turn 6000 light.
Actually, I would have thought you would be getting more revs with that setup. I have the same motor on a much larger Starliner and turn a 24" Powertech TRO4 5800.
I would try a 24" or 25" Trophy or TRO4. Overall they are great props for that motor. It likes the small hub 4 blades.

Eluder I have a different boat but here's my setup, maybe this might help.
The final setup:
Pulse 170
Merc 200HP EFI
6" Jack plate
25P Tempest Plus 2" below pad
water scoops
(PVS)Medium Plugs in the prop.
I was turning 6000 rpm's 74mph(gps).

hey, i tried a tempest plus 23' and it really lifted the bow. it was slow taking off and never got over 5400 rpms. but that was with the prop 3 1/2" below pad. turbo 24' is a 3 blade and takes off like a rocket. but uses a lot of fuel during 45 mph cruise speed. has plenty of bow lift. i often have to trim under to get it to ride smooth in rougher water. hoping someone who has dialed in a eluder could give me some prop choices.
