1988 Checkmate Senator

Just picked up a 1988 Checkmate Senator with no motor in it, a 468 BBC came with it and was told it was an original big block boat. How can I tell what motor came in it?

welcome!

7.4L came in the original.

i find it a bit heavy on the back. i have a 350 and that is much better on weight.

any pictures?

Write down the Hin # off the right rear of the boat and call checkmate. Not sure what the number is. Others on here have it. I think a 468ci is to much motor if it's got a Alpha hanging out the back. 350ci to me is just right. No more than 300hp on a Alpha. just my input.

So y'all think a 350 would be fine in it? I have GM Goodwrench crate motor I had thought about putting in it because it came with small black manifolds and risers. I'm just a big block kinda guy lol but if the alpha drive won't handle it i don't wanna tear anything up.

What's the top speed of your boat with the 350 in it? Is it all stock or any upgrades? And I have pictures but I'm not sure how to post them

an alpha will not handle a built 454 that is why the big motors get a bravo. there were some 454s that came with alpha but they were only around 330 hp.

66-67 or so. 350MAG with a ballistic prop 21. no upgrades.

i am not in the USA and there is a lot of guys trying to make engine's overhere in holland but the know how is poor. i stick for that reason on stock engine.
i am happy with the speed. faster gets me a not stable ride.
