2 inch drive spacer

The cost of speed is relevant. By this, I mean that if your boat is going 30 mph and you want to go 35, you can achieve that for a nominal amount of $$. If you are going 85 and want to go 90, you are going to dump some serious $$ to do that. So, if you went 5 mph faster with only $2k, you werent go that fast to begin with.

After you get your base combo dialed in, anything more seems like it costs $1000.00 per MPH. I have spent money and went slower, which is part of the game.

agreed! the equation here is to get from 65 mph to 70 mph.
what was your starting speed to gaining that 5 mph for 2k?
did your gains come from adding a drive spacer? Elaborate.
Thanks!

I read back thru the thread so my last question has been answered.
Thanks!

vinny p, lets try to work something out with the prop - I am not in
a hurry as it is a bit cold for a test run on the river - however I am
not afraid of the cold - I'd like to test it out before I head to S. Fla
in late March if possible - give it some thought and lets touch base
in the next couple of weeks to see if it can be worked out - thanks!

Okay here it comes

Exhaust! go on Ebay get yourself a High Flow header/Exhaust set up there is always a good used set . I got a mint set of stainless marine headers for $800 after replacing the Hardware and gaskets, thermostat housing and new hose I spent $1100. Then I bought 2 land & Sea sternjacks for $1800 Sold one for $1100. I then rebuilt my upper unit all Merc heavy Duty stuff parts was about $450. I then installed the Stern Jack , Exhaust, and tuned the boat, also I rebuilt the Carb. I had my prop trued for $100. So doing my own labor I spent about $2600-$3K. Replaced the whole ignition set up not needed but did it anyway. I went from about 64-65 mph gps to 71-72 gps on a 21" Enchanter Small Block. The Stern Jack alone was good for about
2-3 mph, truing the prop helped and the headers made a difference. Sure I am not going going 85 but I am on a lake and I am quicker out of the hole plane faster and having a great time blowing away the jet skiis and Bass boats. Plus it is not a stinky whining 2 stroke outboard:bigthumb:

cvx16cvx, read thru the earlier posts to this thread - I have all the upgrades
you mention other than jack plates - I have the gil exhaust setup - the
virtually weightless manifolds etc.. - I think a labbed prop is in my future
and maybe the shorty setup if the prop upgrade doesn't do the trick..

My 1988 251 Convincor with the stock motor went about 55mph. I spent 1900.00 on a brand new Weiand supercharger and gained at least 13-14mph. The same excact supercharger has gone up a little in price but not much. They work awesome with stock engines and stock compression, that's what they're designed for. You might spend around 2200.00 for everything to make the supercharger work and I bet you'll gain at least 10mph.

I appreciate that input, bigs, and actually that was one of my first considerations, however I do not believe I have the clearance under
the hatch for it - and modifying it is not an option - as it is my wifes
fav spot for sunbathing - what did you do about the clearance?
Was it an issue? I know its an issue for me as I have just enough
clearance as it is - curious to hear your response! Thanks!
