2000 Stiletto BR prop

Well-known member
Could use some help on prop selection. 2000 Stiletto BR 454 MAG MPI, 1:5 Bravo 1, turning 24 P Bravo 1.
With just me and 1/2 tank 91 octane ethanol free she is turning 5400 RPM & bouncing off of the rev limiter. Not sure on speed yet but the speedo only goes to 80 and she buries the needle.
I have always liked the Mirage Plus but not sure if anyone has experience with this combination of hull, engine & drive.
I plan to go up in pitch and send the prop out to have it labbed by Mercury Racing or other.

Any help I could get here would be fantastic!

Your boat is a rare bird so there won't be to much info on it. From what you wrote your rpm's are a bit high. Should be 5000 max so a prop a pitch bigger will help with that. I can tell you I would be very surprised if you where running 70 mph. The speedo is junk.

Well we finaly got out with the GPS unit and you were correct Keith. With 4 people in the boat and 1/2 tank of gas we hit 67 on GPS but we are still bouncing off the Rev limiter at 5,400 RPM's. Speedo is off by 10 MPH.

Going to try a 26P Bravo 1 and see what we get with that. The slip numbers on the 24P bravo 1 are very high @ 18 and I do not understand why.

The guy that owns and runs Spinelli Brothers now has suggested a Spinelli Star 27P.

Merc Racing suggested a 28P Bravo 1 FS non labbed. When I get to see what we get with the 26P Bravo 1 I will call them again and make a decision.

Stay tuned!

Check your tach for accuracy as well. The rev limiters on stock MPI motors was 5150 rpm unless you have a modified ecu. You will want to prop around 4900 loaded and 5000 with a light load for reference.

Try a Hydromotive QIV if you can get your hands on one. Personally I dislike Bravo I props. Have never tried one yet that I have liked the handling. Old mach Sterndriver are a good all around prop as well for Checkmate hulls.

5100 rpm puts you at 13% slip.

With a 26P you would see 72 mph. I wouldn't think you could turn anything more than that 26P.

Thank you for all the help this forum is great!
Chris is going to let me borrow his 27P Mirage if it works well I am buying it.

Did some more research on the Bravo 1 FS. It is a true bow lifting prop so much will depend on the trial of the 26P Bravo 1 my nephew is letting me try. Kip from Checkmate suggested a Bravo 1.

The other side of the coin is the Spinelli prop I am looking at. The new owner has suggested a 27P Star, you can see them on the web site.
If I can turn the 26 I may buy both the Bravo 1 FS and the Spinelli.

We shall see how everything turns out!

Stay tuned!
