24 checkmate pulls hard to left

Hello Wilson. Look at stern of vessel. Report back with appraisal of scene at stern of vessel, I.E. type of engine/drive, presence of flap like protuberances from lower stern area, and appearance/type/size/pitch of prop (or impellor, smile). Also, while your looking back there from the operators position, are you on the right or left side of said vessel?

Do you have power steering and if so is it working?

When I got my boat the power steering did not work and when taking off, the wheel would try to rip out of your hands and go left. When on plane if you let go of the wheel it would turn left on its own. I (read my boat mechanic / friend) repaired it this winter and now she runs true as can be.

I think it had power steering.boat appears to sit one inch lower in water on left side will even out some when im on right side fuel tank is in center . looking at back of boat . all appears normal. from back of boat driver sits on right side.i can get it to handle fairly well.. with trim adjustment . it just dosent appear normal.....?

Can you post some specifics/situations?

Also if you don't have power steering anymore it is going to pull hard left due to the rotation of the prop.

^^^ This.

Also... You've possibly got some captive water on the port side of the boat causing the lean you earlier described.

That would be a good start.

But a lot of that water may have soaked the flotation foam, and that means there is a breach somewhere in the floor. Which means.... Get the saw out. If the foam is saturated, then it's highly likely the plywood is rotting. Your boat is almost 30 years old. If you're not the original owner, or don't know the history of the boat, it's highly likely it wasn't cared for when not being used.

Plans with saw on Sunday! Why is there foam inside the floor?
Manufactures of 'glass boats would pour expanding foam under the floors to meet flotation standards. (I had a 22' aluminum hulled Sylvan that the manufacture just placed pre-cut blocks of foam under the flooring. Different technique, same idea.)

Everything you ever didn't want to know about USCG flotation standards: https://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/assets/builders-handbook/FLOTATION.pdf Although, IIRC, most law pertains for vessels under 20', the manufactures seemed to add flotation to larger boats. I'm sure someone on this forum has the definitive answer. Just remember that in most jurisdictions, if your boat sinks, you are responsible for salvaging it. Much easier to tow a swamped boat than get one off the bottom in 50' of water....

I might not go 'all in' with the saw to start. Might consider using a hole saw first. That'll give ya a look-see. Did you try draining the boat out like you posted?

Yes drained boat on a hill.drill hole. Then jigsaw from there...drained boat before ever posting maybe front 6ft higher

Do you have any pictures? 24ft Checkmate isn't a model. I'm guessing Enforcer but Vision is a little under 24' and Convincor was just over.

:irked:

Why is this starting to smell more and more like a troll?

Vague question, short uninformed replies, doesn't know the model of his boat.

any thoughts?

Have pics on phone how do I add with out url? I'm Robert Delucia on Facebook from unionville tn have pics there! Why a troll just trying to figure out.... What's wrong with boat ...is that not allowed?
