Considering buying a powerhead from Eagle one.I was wondering if anyone has a merc 280 on a Starflight and could give me expected performance #?Im running 5.5 inches of setback. The 200 runs good but isnt quite fast enough. My neighbor gets me by a few mph with his stratos bass boat and I cant have a bass boat passing me all summer.

I don't have the answer for you,but I am with you on the bass boat thing. I can't stand the Idea that some ugly bass boat with extra wieght from loaded live wells, extra batteries, etc is going down the lake faster than my Checkmate. I hope some of our members come up with the information you need so the only thing you see of the bass boat this summer is the front as it is desperatly tring to keep up!

I would hope to see speeds in the 80-85 range with no problem. Can't go wrong with Nowa at Eagle 1. Great group of go-fast people.

280 will definitely go like stink if you find the right prop to let it spin to 7500 rpm, but these motors need new rings every 200 hours. If the price is right go for it, but you will need to do a lot more work to a 280 EFI than your old 200
