60 HP Longshaft on MX-13?

ScootMods

Member
I picked up a mx-13 recently and it came with a junk 35 on it. A local guy has a deal on a good johnson vro longshaft 60 hp. I can rig the boat to bring the motor up but will this be safe? I am concerned about the possibility of having the center of gravity too high on the rear of the boat.

Do you guys think I'm asking for trouble?

thanks
Joe

Just drop it on the transom and go. You can use the engine's mounting bolt pattern for any add'l height you might need but that's all I would put into it.

That boat is screamer with anything from 50 hp on up. I rigged mine with a 50, 85, and a 100 hp motor. All of them sat right on the transom although the 100 hp was a bit of challenge.

When you say long shaft, do you mean 20" or 25"?

Is the 60hp a 2 or 3 cylinder.

I ran my 1972 Mx-13 with a 3cylinder 70hp Johnson and the engine bracket was about 3 inches above the transon.

Center of Gravity was just fine.

Post some pics of the rig.

I think it's a 20", engine code L.

3 cylinder.

Where was the prop shaft center to the bottom of transom?

Thanks for the help guys, not a lot of mx-13 info out there.

The prop shaft was about 4" below the bottom of the hull if I had to guess.

I have some great pics, but don't know how to post them on here.
