7.4 (non mag) Manifold replcement.

Well after three hours of standing on my head I have one side off. I was getting condensation steam in the engine compartment last run and figured it was time to get this job done..

Looks like I have three options

1. Clean up and reinstall current setup
2. Look for after market lighter ones
3. Go for a performance manifold

I know I wouldn't expect any increased performance, but would she sound even meaner.

Any one got any advice on which direction to go in and if these are re-usable or too far gone.

Thanks

Hardin marine just came out with seaward manifolds that look similar to stainless marines. They list for $1699. I think I'm going to give them a shot.

Look for a used set of aluminum 496 manifolds. We put them on my Dad's Whippled 454 and they sound great!!! They flow a lot better than stock and we got ours for about $450. Great replacement for a stock set. You'll save some weight as well.

Those do look very nice. You can also get EMI for not much more. Problem with the Hardin Seaward as they wont be shipping for some time yet.

I would recommend not to reinstall those just by looks of that pic. If they are cracked inside and water leaks into exhaust you will kill your engine. New GLM or HGE aftermarket might also be a consideration. They are a lot lighter than the stock cast iron. Sometimes used Gil manifolds are available also.

This is the way I'm going got a good used set with the stock risers for $450. Big improvement over what we have stock on the 454. Need to spend big $$$ on full tube headers before you will get much better and need the engine to justify them.
