85 Starflite with wet transom

I agree with you regarding the weight of the wet transom.

It sounds like your cap has been removed once before with no filler and missing rivets.

Since I find it hard to post pics of my project I will put in the URL for my Photobucket album.

This is up to date as of today 10/09/09

If anyone has any suggestions for my transom transplant please feel free
to post your comments. Using common sense, I should get through this project
OK but help from those that have been here before me are definatly appreciated.

bigredinohio:

I have read all your info regarding your transom replacement and it has been a road map
that I have followed. Sure has made life easier for me.
Thank you.

You are making great progress and I'm so jealous of the forklift!!! It would of been nice to have the cap off my boat but I made do.

I'm not real sure what stage you are in your replacement but I would recommend replacing the core first then add a couple of layers of CSM on the transom skin to beef it up from sanding and also to cover up some of those unfortunate holes.

The biggest problem in my whole replacement was getting the cap back on as my cap was not used to a straight transom so I had to do some cutting into the splashwell. It's the only day I truely hated working on this boat!

My roadmap is based on what Old Hickory, Teamhart2 and some others have done with their boats.

bigredinohio,

I made a set of the clamps you used for your transom installation and
they worked great. Thank you for posting pictures of them. I installed
the CSM to the transom skin and the plywood all in one shot today with
the help of my cousin that builds his own fiberglass boats. He is a wealth of
knowledge that is keeping me from making mistakes. I have updated
my photobucket album. It brings me up to date with everything I have done so far.
Tomorrow I will clean the work accomplished today and apply 2 layers of 1708
over the plywood. During the week I will make the new support knee's and incorporate
them into aft the stringer assembly that holds the fuel tank. This will move the knee's closer
together than the original parts and will also be much stronger. The knees will have
contact with the hull rather than just the 1/2" plywood floor.

I have not been successful posting pics here so you can view my album here:
